Southern University, Baton Rouge CampusThe public schools in the City of Baker are currently operated and supervised by the East Baton Rouge Parish School Board, but the City of Baker earned in 1995 the authority by statewide election to establish an independent school district in Baker. Activities by the City of Baker, its officials, and its advisory Education Commission since then have been directed toward electing a local Baker Independent School District Board. The election is scheduled for October 3, 1998. The City of Baker hopes to be able to open the public schools under the supervision of the Baker Independent School District by the Fall of the year 2000.
